Snake Believed to Be King Cobra Discovered in Hotel Toilet
Authorities: "Possible Escape from Illegal Captivity"
Hotel guests in the Philippines were left in shock after a snake, believed to be a highly venomous king cobra measuring about 1.2 meters in length, was discovered inside a hotel room toilet.
According to The Sun, a British media outlet, the incident occurred on May 5 at a hotel in the Salvador Benedicto area of the Philippines. At the time, five friends were staying together when one of them noticed a dark object inside the toilet while attempting to use the bathroom. Initially, it was thought that the water simply hadn't drained, but when the toilet was flushed again, the head of a snake suddenly emerged from the drainpipe.
In the released video, a guest can be seen cautiously poking inside the toilet with a stick, prompting the approximately 1.2-meter-long snake to suddenly slither out. The snake reportedly made its way up to the area around the sink pipes. Realizing the danger, the group immediately notified hotel staff, who rushed to the scene and captured the snake.
At first, those present assumed it was simply a water snake. However, after a guest shared the video with a reptile enthusiasts’ group, it was suggested that the snake could be a king cobra. King cobras are known as the largest venomous snakes in the world and are classified as extremely dangerous due to their deadly venom. However, the species of the captured snake has not been officially confirmed.
Local authorities stated that this is not the first time a king cobra has been spotted in the area. Police chief Gina Gerangaya explained that the snake might have escaped after being illegally kept by someone. Authorities also raised the possibility that the recent heatwave prompted the snake to enter the building in search of a cool place.
