Gyeonggi Women's Technical College Memorial Monument to Be Temporarily Relocated and Permanently Preserved
Gyeonggi Province has decided to relocate and permanently preserve the 'Memorial Monument at Gyeonggi Women's Technical College,' which was erected following a fire incident in 1995.
On May 14, Gyeonggi Province announced that a memorial service would be held at the monument site in Mabuk-dong, Giheung-gu, Yongin City on the 17th, with bereaved families and others in attendance. After the ceremony to commemorate the victims, the relocation work will begin.
This action is being taken because the site has been incorporated into the development area of the Yongin Platform City project. The temporary relocation will move the monument to a nearby plot approximately 90 meters from its current location.
After the temporary relocation, Gyeonggi Province plans to establish a permanent memorial space linked to the park development plan within the project area by 2030, taking into account the historical significance and symbolism of the monument.

In 1996, Gyeonggi Province installed the memorial monument to honor the victims of the fire and remember this painful part of history. Since then, the area has been used for facilities such as the Women's Capability Development Center and the Southern Business Division of the Gyeonggi Job Foundation. The monument, located within the project site, has been maintained by Gyeonggi Province as a symbolic space to honor the victims up to the present.
Since August 2024, Gyeonggi Province has continuously gathered feedback from bereaved families and experts through meetings and a dedicated task force (TF) that included the bereaved families and the project operator, regarding the relocation of the monument.
