Jingangun, Busan Names Jeonggwan Edupark Main Auditorium 'Sohakdae Hall'
Final Name Selected Through Community Contest
Trial Operation in June, Official Opening on the 26th
Jingangun (Governor Jung Jongbok) has announced that the final winning entry in the naming contest for the main auditorium at Jeonggwan Edupark is 'Sohakdae Hall'.
Jeonggwan Edupark is a multi-purpose educational and cultural space, spanning from one basement level to four above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 11,635.17 square meters. As a core facility of the Jeonggwan Educational Happiness Town project, it will serve as a key regional complex cultural space alongside Aqua Dream Park and Sports Healing Park.
Inside the facility, there are amenities such as a children's library, a lifelong learning center, a community culture center, a youth center, an English language hub, a college counseling room, the youth center 'Cheong:Ryujang,' an all-together care center, and a main auditorium, enabling all residents to participate in a diverse range of educational and cultural programs.
The main auditorium, with a capacity of 626 seats, is a space that can host performances, lectures, and various cultural events. It is also equipped with a waiting room and a rehearsal room. The county held a naming contest from April 16 to 30 in order to select a name for this new cultural landmark together with the local community, receiving a total of 47 proposals.
After conducting both online and offline preference surveys and a review by the contest judging committee, the final name was selected.
'Sohakdae Hall' derives its name from Sohakdae, one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Jingan. The name is intended to evoke the meaning of a place where cranes once rested, and, like the soaring Sohakdae, to symbolize an open space for culture and the arts. Additionally, just as Sohakdae offers sweeping views of the sea and the Jeonggwan area, the hall is meant to represent a space where the local community, the arts, and residents come together in harmony.
Jingangun will conduct a trial operation before the official opening in June. By opening some facilities in advance, the county will test program operations, facility usage, and the reservation system, and address any operational shortcomings by incorporating user feedback.
On June 26, the opening ceremony for Jeonggwan Edupark will be held at Sohakdae Hall, along with a commemorative performance. Local cultural and arts organizations, as well as professional performance groups such as orchestras and choirs, are scheduled to participate, offering a variety of performances.
