Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, announced on May 13 that it will operate a weekend drone delivery service around Central Park starting this month. This year, a new service will be launched in which a robot transports goods from restaurants to the drone delivery hub once an order is placed. The drone then delivers the items to designated locations within the park. This will be further expanded as the nation's first integrated drone-robot smart logistics service.
The service will operate on weekends in May, June, September, October, and November at the picnic area and the water play sound shelter inside Central Park. During July and August, it will be available on Thursdays, Fridays, and weekends at seven locations along the Tancheon Stream water play areas.
The Tancheon Stream operation sites include: Geumgok Park temporary water play area, Gumi-dong water play area, Gumi-dong pet playground, sports facilities in front of Bundang Middle School, shelter in front of The Sharp Park River, Tancheon basketball court in front of Gungnae Intersection, and the Tancheon barefoot clay path in Gumi-dong.
The service operates from midnight to 6 a.m., with possible adjustments to operating hours depending on weather conditions or air force flight restrictions within the control zone.
The project is operated by Barons Co., Ltd. Citizens can conveniently order food and other items by scanning the QR code on banners installed near the delivery points in the park using their smartphones and placing orders through the public delivery app, Meokkaebi.
