National Academy of Arts Collection Exhibition: 66 Works Including Kim Whanki and Chun Kyungja on Display
The National Academy of Arts of the Republic of Korea will host the "2026 National Academy of Arts Collection Exhibition" at the first-floor exhibition hall of the Academy from May 13 to June 12, 2026.
Since 2008, the Academy has introduced its collection to art lovers and the general public through a biennial exhibition. The Academy, established in 1954, has been collecting works with art historical value from members in various fields such as Korean painting, Western painting, sculpture, crafts, calligraphy, and architecture every year since 1974. As of May 2026, the Academy’s collection consists of a total of 140 works.
This year, the exhibition will feature 66 works from the collection, including "Landscape Reflected in Water" (created in 1942) by Chunggok Ko Heedong, who served as the first president of the Academy at its founding in 1954, as well as works by late members such as Kim Whanki, Chun Kyungja, Yoo Youngkuk, Oh Jiho, and Seo Seok, and current members such as Jeon Loejin, Lee Shinja, and Choi Jongtae. Notably, the exhibition will debut works including "Bird and Moon" (created in 1975) by sculpture member Choi Eu-soon, "Sound of Flowing Water" (created in 2012, ceramics) by crafts member Cho Jeonghyun, "Untitled" (created in 2013, Korean painting) by Lee Cheolju, and "Autumn Sentiment - Andong" (created in 2020) by Oh Yonggil.
The exhibition is open to the public free of charge, Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on legal holidays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

An Academy official stated, "It is a rare opportunity to see the works of artists who are indispensable to the modern and contemporary art history of Korea all in one place," adding, "We hope that the years of experience and passionate creative energy of these artists, who have maintained the authenticity of Korean art while pursuing their own unique artistic worlds in various fields, will be fully conveyed to art lovers."
