Gyeongnam Election Commission Reports Six for Violations of Election and Political Funds Acts
The Gyeongnam Election Commission announced on May 12 that it had reported a total of six individuals to the prosecution and the police in connection with the 9th Nationwide Local Elections, on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act and the Political Funds Act.
According to the Gyeongnam Election Commission, among those reported to the prosecution, Mr. A, who served as the election campaign manager for a preliminary candidate in a municipal council election, is accused of providing food and beverages worth a total of 1.2 million won to four voters in the constituency between March and April, and spending this amount from the preliminary candidate's political funds.
Four executives, including the president of a certain organization who were reported to the police, are accused of engaging in intra-party primary election activities for incumbent local government head Mr. B from December of last year to April of this year, declaring support for Mr. B in the name of the organization without internal decision-making procedures, and promoting this support through social networking services (SNS), thereby disseminating false information.
Additionally, current local assembly member Mr. C, who was reported to the prosecution by the Election Commission, is accused of attending a club meeting within his electoral district in January and providing a donation of support.
A Gyeongnam Election Commission official stated, "As election day approaches, there is a growing concern about the occurrence of serious election crimes such as bribery," and added, "We plan to take strict action with a zero-tolerance policy against illegal acts in order to establish a fair and clean election order."
