Extreme 100 km Challenge, A Journey of Giving
A Global Fundraising Initiative
Inje County, Gangwon Province, will host the global fundraising project '2026 Oxfam Trailwalker' together with the international relief and development organization Oxfam Korea (CEO Ji Kyungyoung) for two days from May 16 to 17, throughout the Inje County area.
Oxfam Trailwalker is a challenge-based fundraising event where teams of four complete a 100 km course within 38 hours.
Rather than being a competition focused on rankings or records, it is a meaningful event dedicated purely to fundraising, where team members share an extreme experience. For this reason, participants often refer to it as a 'life-changing fundraising project'.
Oxfam Trailwalker is a globally recognized challenge-based fundraising project that began in Hong Kong in 1981. Since then, more than 200,000 people have participated in 12 countries, including the United Kingdom, New Zealand, France, India, and Australia.
In Korea, the event was first held in 2017 in Gurye, Jeollanam-do, and through eight subsequent events in areas such as Inje and Goseong in the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, more than KRW 1.3 billion has been raised in donations.
This year's event, now in its ninth edition, has received applications from 223 teams for the flagship 100 km course as well as the 50 km and 25 km courses.
Participants will begin their challenge at 6:00 a.m. on the 16th, departing from Inje Culture Center and following scenic routes through the primeval forest trail up Bakdalgochi, the birch forest trail, the ecological village of Jeongjari, Haneulnaerinteo, Naerincheon, and other beautiful and iconic locations along Inje County’s Cheonri-gil.
All donations voluntarily raised through the participation fees and pre-event team fundraising will be used in their entirety to support water, sanitation, livelihood, and education programs for people suffering from poverty around the world.
Additionally, finishers of the event will earn certified points that qualify them to participate in the 'Ultra Trail du MontBlanc (UTMB)', the dream stage for trail runners.
