National Sports Festival for Students with Disabilities Opens in Busan with Record 4,287 Participants
The 20th National Sports Festival for Students with Disabilities will be held across Busan Metropolitan City from May 12 to 15, 2026.
The 20th National Sports Festival for Students with Disabilities is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Paralympic Committee. The event is co-hosted by Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, and Busan Metropolitan City Sports Association for the Disabled.
This year, a total of 4,287 participants, including 1,983 athletes and 2,304 officials and staff members, representing five types of disabilities—physical, visual, intellectual, hearing, and brain lesions—will take part. This marks the largest scale in the festival’s history.
Athletes representing 17 cities and provinces will compete in elementary, middle, and high school divisions across 17 sports. The events include five developmental sports featured in the Paralympic Games and Asian Para Games, eleven popularized sports aimed at expanding grassroots participation, and one demonstration sport.
The festival has served as a gateway for discovering young talent in disability sports and nurturing future national team athletes. In addition to elite sports, it also offers popular sports events, thereby expanding opportunities for students with disabilities to participate in sports and contributing to the spread of disability sports culture and improved public awareness.
