The Navy destroyer Munmu the Great (DDH-II, 4,400-ton class) will depart on May 11 to participate in the International Fleet Review commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, as well as to take part in maneuver exercises hosted by the U.S. Second Fleet Command.
According to the Navy, Munmu the Great will set sail from the Jeju Naval Base in the afternoon of the same day and join the U.S. International Fleet Review to be held in New York from July 3 to July 8. Over 50 countries, including the host nation, the United States, as well as Korea, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Spain, along with more than 100 naval vessels, will participate in this event.
Before the International Fleet Review, at the end of next month, Munmu the Great will participate in maneuver exercises (FLEET-EX 250) hosted by the U.S. Second Fleet Command, which oversees the U.S. East Coast and the North Atlantic, in the waters east of Norfolk, United States.
About 30 ships from the navies of 18 countries, including the United States, Brazil, France, the United Kingdom, and Spain, are scheduled to participate in the exercise. Munmu the Great will also engage in promotional activities for Korean naval vessels and weapons systems at port calls in countries such as Mexico and Colombia. A maritime defense industry promotion booth will be installed and operated in the helicopter hangar at the stern of the ship. On the return journey after the International Fleet Review, the ship will call at Cartagena, Colombia, and San Diego, United States, to carry out commemorative activities honoring Korean War veterans.
