Myth, AI, Insects, and Bones Meet... ACC Opens "Aberrant Bones"
Exhibition Hall 7 Open Through June 7
Two-Artist Show Featuring Young Local Artists Soobum Lim and Seungwan Ha
The National Asia Culture Center is presenting the exhibition "Aberrant Bones: Soobum Lim, Seungwan Ha," which spotlights local artists.
The National Asia Culture Center, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, announced that it will hold the second exhibition of "ACC NEWST," titled "Aberrant Bones," from May 7 to June 7 at Exhibition Hall 7 of the ACC.
"ACC NEWST" is a program that provides exhibition opportunities to artists selected through an open call for local creators. This year, a total of four teams and five artists—Jeongki Lee, Younggi Seo, Nahee Yang, and the duo of Soobum Lim and Seungwan Ha—were selected, with exhibitions taking place sequentially from March to August.
This exhibition follows "Translated Virtuality" by Jeongki Lee in March as the second in the series. The ACC newly established Exhibition Hall 7 to support the creative activities of artists working primarily in painting and to expand opportunities for them to exhibit their work.
"Aberrant Bones" is an artist-driven exhibition that gives the artists autonomy in planning and directing the show. Departing from the standardized white cube format, the exhibition is characterized by allowing the artists' worldviews to be fully expressed throughout the entire space.
Artist Soobum Lim raises questions about the fixed order of reality through the peculiar forms of "bones." Drawing on an organic worldview where beings from Eastern and Western myths intermingle, Lim presents a transcendent space without boundaries.
Artist Seungwan Ha focuses on the imagery of "hybrids" born at the intersection of mythical legends and modern civilization. By combining figures from classical stories with artificial intelligence (AI) robots and insect forms, Ha proposes a formative world where the past and future intermingle.
