The meeting was presided over by the Director of Construction at Gyeonggi Province, with attendees including officials from the Road Policy Division of Gyeonggi Province, the Head of Power Grid Location at KEPCO, and officials from the Gyeongin Construction Headquarters.
The discussions focused on key issues for the joint construction of roads and power grids, particularly regarding the plan to connect Local Road Route 318 between Yongin and Icheon with the semiconductor cluster.
The two organizations also coordinated the timing of the integrated basic design order for roads and power grids and the start of construction. They agreed to continue refining details with the goal of signing an implementation agreement in the future. In particular, they reviewed the draft agreement, including the cost settlement method and the allocation of responsibilities by phase, and discussed the specific timing for the agreement and the implementation schedule.
This meeting is a follow-up to the "Road-Electric Power Network Joint Construction Business Agreement" signed between Gyeonggi Province and KEPCO in January. Through this agreement, both organizations have shared plans for the construction of local roads and the power grid and have agreed to cooperate on the joint construction of the power network in the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster area by utilizing Local Road Route 318.
The Yongin Semiconductor Cluster is a national strategic industry requiring large-scale electricity demand, making the timely establishment of a power supply infrastructure a core challenge. Consequently, the joint construction approach that links road building with power grid installation is gaining attention as a practical alternative.
Gyeonggi Province and KEPCO plan to use the working group to clarify key issues such as cost sharing and role definition, and to gradually identify projects where joint construction can be applied.
Baek Seongho, Director of Construction at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Jointly constructing roads and power grids is a new method that reduces redundant investment and increases project efficiency. Through cooperation between the two organizations, we will develop this into a leading model that supports national strategic projects."
