On May 7, Yongin Special City announced that it has strengthened its road hazard management system by expanding the application of its “AI-based Road Hazard Control System”—which was previously operated mainly on city buses—to a total of 300 vehicles, including village buses and official vehicles.

Notably, this expanded system is the first in the country to directly link the “Road Hazard Control System” with the “People’s Sinmungo” civil complaint platform. This integration has established a one-stop “integrated management system” that covers every stage from road damage detection to on-site repair work, and the completion of civil complaint processing.

Yongin Special City has additionally installed control terminals on 53 village buses and 147 official vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with high-precision positioning information (RTK) and AI video control devices, which analyze road data and detect hazards such as potholes.

The city is also using a field work instruction app to quickly coordinate repair work and systematically manage road conditions by accumulating data on the results of these operations.

The AI-based pothole control system is already showing results. From April 2025 to February 2026, Yongin Special City detected and addressed a total of 3,208 potholes. Civil complaints related to the People’s Sinmungo platform decreased by 436 cases (19%) compared to the previous year.

Compensation for facility damage caused by road defects (217.53 million won) also dropped by about 25%.

Starting in June, the system’s scope will be further expanded to handle not only potholes, but also other road-related complaints submitted through the People’s Sinmungo platform, such as damaged road fixtures and roadkill (animal carcass) removal. In October, the city plans to establish a “completion management automation system” that will automatically verify data integrity for road repair processes and manage project completion after construction, thereby finalizing its smart road management model.

A Yongin Special City official stated, “For the first time in Yongin, we have established a new model for road management by linking the AI pothole control system with the People’s Sinmungo platform. We will continue to expand smart administrative services that citizens can truly experience.”
