Pocheon City Accelerates Metropolitan Emergency Vehicle Priority Signal Installation to Secure the Golden Time
Pocheon City in Gyeonggi Province has begun earnest efforts to secure the "golden time" needed to protect citizens' precious lives during urgent situations such as fires or rescues, where every second counts.
On May 7, the city announced that it will promote the "Metropolitan Emergency Vehicle Priority Signal Installation Project" based on the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).

Once the system is introduced, it is expected to reduce the signal waiting time for emergency vehicles, enabling them to arrive at the scene more quickly. It is also anticipated to help prevent secondary accidents that may result from emergency vehicles running red lights out of necessity.
For efficient system implementation and management, the city has entrusted the project management work to Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, a specialized agency. The contract will last for nine months. On April 29, a kickoff meeting was held where Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation and relevant departments of Pocheon City shared the project's direction and key items.
The city plans to closely coordinate with fire stations that will operate the system in the field, optimizing the system for sections with high frequencies of emergency dispatches and enhancing on-site response capabilities.
An official from Pocheon City stated, "The emergency vehicle priority signal system will play a key role in securing the golden time to save citizens' lives during disasters. We will do our utmost to build a safe and smart traffic infrastructure by continuously collaborating with related agencies."
