Biological Resource Data to Be Consolidated... 'National Biodiversity Information' Expanded Through Collaboration Among 30 Institutions
National Science Museum Hosts Biodiversity Institution Alliance General Meeting
Initiates Preparations for 20th Anniversary Projects
The collaborative framework for integrating and sharing information on domestic biological resources is expanding. Institutions nationwide are coming together to share the results of joint surveys and discuss strategies for data utilization. The initiative aims to strengthen the foundation for biodiversity research and broaden international cooperation.
The National Science Museum announced on April 28 that it will host the "30th Regular General Meeting and Workshop of the National Biodiversity Institution Alliance" at the National Institute of Ecology for two days, from April 29 to April 30. As the Korean branch of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), the National Science Museum operates a collaborative network comprising 67 institutions across the country.

Ahead of the alliance’s 20th anniversary next year, a commemorative task force will be formed, and discussions will be held regarding the location and direction of the anniversary events.
During the workshop, the results of a joint academic survey conducted in the Taean area of Chungnam will be released. Research achievements in various fields such as plants, birds, fish, and marine life will be presented, and 84 specimens—including Limonium tetragonum, black-tailed gulls, and Acanthogobius flavimanus—will be exhibited.
The biological resource data collected from the survey will be made available through the Korean Natural History Research Information System (NARIS) and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility portal. This is expected to enhance both the international utilization and research accessibility of Korea’s biological resources.
