Through this partnership, the company aims to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen city buses in the metropolitan area.
The signing ceremony was attended by Jae-seop Yeom, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor Domestic Sales Division; Jeonghwan Kim, CEO of Dowon Transportation; Gangsu Han, CEO of Samhwan Transportation; Kwanghun Ahn, CEO of Sewoon Industry; and Younggeun Yang, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor Securities Planning and Finance Division, among other key officials.
This business agreement is designed to create a foundation for expanding the supply of hydrogen city buses by converting CNG filling stations in the metropolitan area into hydrogen charging stations. It also aims to introduce a total of 400 hydrogen electric buses over the next five years on metropolitan city bus routes operated by Dowon Transportation and Samhwan Transportation.
Hyundai Motor will supply Elec City hydrogen electric buses to Dowon Transportation and Samhwan Transportation in a timely manner and support specialized maintenance training to facilitate smooth bus operations for the transport companies.
The Elec City hydrogen electric bus is equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell system with a maximum output of 180kW, a 180kW motor with a peak torque of 4,500N·m, and a high-capacity 78.4kWh lithium-ion battery.
With its highly efficient motor, high-performance hydrogen fuel cell system, and best-in-class hydrogen tank capacity, the bus can travel up to 751.2 kilometers on a single charge (based on certified fuel efficiency), making it suitable for city bus routes with high power consumption.
Dowon Transportation and Samhwan Transportation will gradually replace their aging CNG buses with Elec City hydrogen electric buses and expand hydrogen city bus operations over time.
Sewoon Industry, as a charging business operator, will actively cooperate in converting existing metropolitan CNG charging hubs into hydrogen charging stations. In addition, it plans to build 10 new hydrogen charging stations in Seoul and Incheon by 2029.
Hyundai Motor Securities will provide necessary advisory and investment support throughout the implementation of the agreement.
Hyundai Motor expects that this business agreement will not only expand hydrogen mobility and infrastructure, but also contribute to achieving the "2030 National Greenhouse Gas Reduction Target (NDC)" by reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector by up to 37.8% compared to 2018 levels by 2030.
