Russia: Iran's Araghchi to Meet President Putin on the 27th to Discuss Middle East Issues
After Failed Negotiations with the U.S., Araghchi Heads to Russia
Focus on Whether President Putin Will Take Active Steps in Mediation
According to Russia's TASS news agency, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is scheduled to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the 27th (local time). There is growing interest in whether Russia will now take an active role in mediating the end-of-war issue involving Iran.
According to TASS, Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson, stated during a briefing that "President Putin is scheduled to meet with Minister Araghchi on the 27th." Kazem Jalali, Iran's ambassador to Russia, also stated, "Minister Araghchi plans to discuss the Middle East conflict, the negotiation situation, the ceasefire, and subsequent developments with Russian authorities."
Previously, Minister Araghchi visited Pakistan and Oman starting on the 24th, and after returning to Pakistan to present Iran's conditions for ending the war, he then headed to Russia. As negotiations with the United States have broken down, this meeting with President Putin has been set.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump abruptly canceled the planned visits to Pakistan by his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, putting a brake on the possibility of face-to-face negotiations. President Trump stated that Iran must "contact the United States directly" as a condition for resuming negotiations, suggesting remote negotiations instead of direct meetings.

There is considerable attention on whether Minister Araghchi will be able to draw out active mediation efforts from President Putin through their talks. Previously, Russia had contacted the United States and offered to cooperate on resolving nuclear issues, such as the removal and dilution of highly enriched uranium from Iran, but it is known that the Trump administration rejected these proposals.
