The "AI Talent Development Cooperation Task Force" was established as a follow-up to the "Science and ICT Ministry–Ministry of Education Talent Policy Dialogue" held on March 19 between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Baek Kyunghoon and Minister of Education Choi Kyogin. To quickly implement AI cooperation initiatives between the two ministries, the task force will be co-led by the vice ministers of each ministry.
This inaugural meeting of the task force covered several topics: cooperation between the Ministry of Science and ICT's AI Colleges (the four Institutes of Science and Technology) and AI-Centered Universities (universities receiving support for AI-centered education) and the Ministry of Education's AI Hub Universities (key national universities); establishing AI practice education platforms for primary and secondary education; innovating teacher training and development systems for the AI era as part of the "Korea AI Action Plan"; and preparing educational guidelines for the safe use of generative AI by students and teachers.
Jemyung Ryu, Second Vice Minister of Science and ICT, stated, "The rapid pace of AI technology development means that conventional talent development methods alone cannot keep up with the demands of the industry. It is time for both ministries to collaborate closely and actively discuss a paradigm shift in AI talent development. If the Ministry of Education lays a solid foundation for basic education, the Ministry of Science and ICT will provide advanced research environments and practical infrastructure, creating an ecosystem in which talent can grow into world-class AI experts."

Eunok Choi, Vice Minister of Education, emphasized, "Talent policy for the AI era is an agenda that cannot be achieved by the efforts of a single ministry alone. Inter-ministerial cooperation is essential. Starting with today's first meeting, I hope that the efforts of both ministries to foster AI talent will transcend bureaucratic boundaries and create a synergistic effect."
