Ahead of the Festival, Yeongju Prioritizes a Thorough Safety Review
Working Committee Launched for Seonbi Culture Festival
Thorough Preparation for Crowd, Fire, and Facility Safety
Yeongju City has begun a comprehensive inspection of its safety management system in preparation for the upcoming "2026 Yeongju Korean Seonbi Culture Festival," which opens in May, to ensure flawless festival operations.
On April 17, Yeongju City announced that it held a Safety Management Working Committee meeting to examine its festival safety management plan and disaster response plan.

The meeting was presided over by Deputy Mayor Um Taehyun and attended by 15 representatives from relevant organizations and event officials, including the Yeongju Police Station, Yeongju Fire Station, Yeongju Office of Education, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Korea Gas Safety Corporation, and Korea Electrical Safety Corporation. They focused on discussing response measures for each sector.
The meeting placed particular emphasis on inspecting all safety elements of the festival, including the operation of the event safety management organization, fire prevention measures, the establishment of an emergency contact network, and strategies for maintaining traffic and order. As this is a major regional festival attracting large numbers of citizens and tourists, the city underscored the importance of establishing a system where proactive prevention and emergency response can work seamlessly together, going beyond simple on-site control.
The "2026 Yeongju Korean Seonbi Culture Festival" will be held from May 2 to May 5 across Sunheung-myeon. This year, the venue—which had previously been divided between Sunheung-myeon and Munjeong Dunchi—will be unified in the Sunheung-myeon area, allowing for more systematic and efficient festival management. Concentrating operations at a single location is also expected to improve the efficiency of visitor flow control, deployment of safety personnel, and response to unexpected situations.
During the festival, Yeongju City plans to deploy on-site safety management personnel to address not only crowd density but also potential risks associated with the use of electrical and gas facilities. The city will also operate an emergency response system. Furthermore, Yeongju City will update its safety management plan based on the discussions at the working committee and intensify accident prevention efforts by conducting joint on-site inspections with related organizations.
Deputy Mayor Um Taehyun stated, "As the Korean Seonbi Culture Festival is the representative cultural tourism festival of Yeongju City, safety must be the top priority," adding, "From the preparation stage to the end of the event, we will ensure thorough management so that not a single safety accident occurs."

This action by Yeongju City is significant as it highlights that the competitiveness of a local festival does not lie solely in the glamour of its programs. By making it clear that 'safety' is the first condition for a successful festival, the administration is focused on creating an environment where citizens and tourists can feel secure and at ease.
