"Mom, I Love You"—Final Farewell: 30-Year-Old Gives New Life to Seven People
Declared Brain Dead... Donated Organs to Seven Including Heart and Lungs
On the Day of Her Son's Organ Donation, His Mother Also Registered as a Donor
A man in his 30s who was declared brain dead after an unexpected accident donated his organs, giving new life to seven people. His warm choice, expressing affection for his family until the very last moment, has touched many as it saved other lives.
According to the Korea Organ and Tissue Donation Agency on April 16, Seonjae Oh (30) passed away after donating his heart, lungs, liver, both kidneys, and eyes through brain death organ donation at Chosun University Hospital on February 6.
Oh lost consciousness due to a sudden accident at a restaurant on January 18 and was taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage. Although he briefly regained consciousness after surgery and told his mother, "I love you," his condition rapidly deteriorated and he was ultimately declared brain dead.
It was reported that Oh had expressed his intention to donate his organs to his family and those around him several times during his lifetime. His mother, Rayoon Choi, recalled her son's wish to "save another life at the last moment" and decided to proceed with the donation. She also registered herself as an organ donation hopeful on the same day.
According to his family, Oh was born as the eldest of two sons and one daughter in Gwangyang, South Jeolla Province. After losing his father at the age of five, he took care of his mother and younger siblings, even helping with meals and supporting the family from a young age.
He started earning pocket money through part-time jobs in high school and went on to work diligently in various roles, including delivery, truck driving, and as an insurance planner. After becoming a full-time employee at a company two years ago, he reportedly told his mother, "Now all that's left is to earn money, so don't worry," and promised to buy her a house.
Seongjun Wi, a friend who knew Oh since elementary school, said, "He was always the one to lift the mood," and added, "He often spoke positively about organ donation, so I'm sure he would be proud of his donation even in heaven."
