Confirmation Hearing for Bank of Korea Governor Nominee
Shin Hyun-song, nominee for Governor of the Bank of Korea, stated that he intends to maintain the current forward guidance (conditional interest rate outlook) and K-dot plot system for the time being.

View original imageDuring the confirmation hearing before the National Assembly’s Finance and Economy Committee on April 15, Shin made this remark in response to a question from Lee Soyoung, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party of Korea, who asked whether the Bank of Korea’s proactive communication approach might be scaled back.
Shin explained, "In order to further refine communication, there needs to be a period of review and evaluation after the system is introduced," adding, "Going forward, I will conduct evaluation work together with the Monetary Policy Committee members."
When asked whether a change in direction could be considered or deliberated, he added, "We should reach a conclusion through the evaluation process."
Meanwhile, Shin also commented, "The (echo effect) I mentioned in 2017 means that communication between the market and the central bank is not one-way; it also involves an interaction in which the central bank observes market prices and interprets them."
