Guri City Resolves Delays in Support Payments for Elderly Drivers Returning Licenses
All 2024-25 Waiting Applicants to Receive Payments by Mid-Year
Proof of Actual Driving Now Required for 200,000 Won Support This Year
Guri City in Gyeonggi Province announced that, in connection with the "Voluntary Return of Driver’s License Support Program for Elderly Drivers," the city will begin sequentially paying support funds to all waiting applicants who returned their licenses between December 2024 and December 2025 but did not receive support due to budget shortages. The payments will be made from April 14 until the end of June.
Guri City has consistently received applications for voluntary license return, but has faced difficulties in providing timely support payments to all applicants due to limited budget resources. As a result, outstanding payments from the previous year have been covered with the next year's budget, causing repeated delays for applicants each year.
To resolve these issues and minimize inconvenience to citizens, the city has allocated and secured its first supplementary budget for 2026. This budget will be used to sequentially pay support funds not only for previous unpaid applicants but also for those who apply in 2026, within the available budget. The support funds will be provided in the form of "Guri Love Gift Certificates" (Guri Love Card).
Eligible recipients are Guri City residents aged 65 or older with a registered driver’s license as of the application date. Standard applicants will continue to receive 100,000 won, while those applying in 2026 who can provide proof of actual driving will see the support amount increased to 200,000 won. Applicants should bring documents such as a vehicle registration certificate or automobile insurance policy to verify actual driving and submit them in person at their local administrative welfare center.
