Creating a Burial Culture Space That Resonates with Citizens
On April 14, Sangju City in North Gyeongsang Province announced that it will begin full-scale development of a long-awaited public memorial park project for its citizens.
The city recently completed a basic concept plan and feasibility study and plans to build modern funeral facilities on a 50,800-square-meter site in Hasong-ri, Hwaseo-myeon, with a total project cost of approximately 43.3 billion won.
The main facility plan includes a columbarium of 1,600 square meters (capacity for 10,000 urns), a natural burial site of 22,000 square meters (capacity for 12,000 remains), convenience facilities, a parking lot of 14,000 square meters (with space for 400 vehicles), and a park of 2,000 square meters. To maximize spatial efficiency, the layout will be developed in sequence from the lower part upward: family park → columbarium and parking lot → lawn burial site.
