'Half-Price Trip' Program Expands... Pre-Registration for Gochang, Geochang, and Wando Begins on the 13th
50% of Travel Expenses Refunded as Local Gift Certificates
Early Closure of Applications in Participating Regions
The number of regions eligible to newly apply for the 'Half-Price Trip' program, which provides a partial refund in the form of local gift certificates, will be expanded.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on April 13, Gochang-gun, Geochang-gun, and Wando-gun are beginning pre-registration for the 'Local Love Vacation Support' program starting today.
This program is being implemented for the first time this year by the Ministry, in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization and 16 local governments. It is designed to encourage repeat visits by refunding 50% of travel expenses via mobile local gift certificates. The maximum refund amount is 100,000 won per individual and 200,000 won per group of two or more people.
Previously, seven regions—Namhae-gun, Miryang-si, Hadong-gun, Hapcheon-gun, Goheung-gun, Yeongam-gun, and Yeonggwang-gun—which had already launched the program, closed applications for April earlier than scheduled due to high demand. Yeongwol-gun closed applications for both April and May, and Jecheon-si has already completed applications for this year's program.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated that, except for Jecheon-si, eight regions are preparing to reopen applications for May and June. Moving forward, Haenam-gun will begin the program on April 30, Pyeongchang-gun on May 1, and Hoengseong-gun on May 20, in sequence. Gangjin-gun is currently operating the program using its local government budget, but from June it will be converted to a state-funded project.

A Ministry official commented, "Since the eligibility criteria, application process, document requirements, and usage guidelines for the certificates vary by region, applicants should check the specific instructions for each area before applying."
