Seosuwon–Uiwang Expressway 'Uiwang TG' to Open Multi-Lane Hi-Pass from October
Gyeonggi Province Begins Construction of Multi-Lane Hi-Pass at Wiwang Tollgate
Traffic Capacity Increased by 60%... Hi-Pass Speed Doubled from 30 km/h to 60 km/h
By around October this year, a multi-lane Hi-Pass system will be installed at the Wiwang Tollgate on the Seosuwon–Wiwang Expressway (Local Road No. 309), a privately funded road managed by Gyeonggi Province, which is expected to reduce traffic congestion.
Gyeonggi Province announced on April 13 that it had recently begun construction, in cooperation with Gyeonggi Nambu Road Co., Ltd., the private operator of the Seosuwon–Wiwang Expressway, to install the multi-lane Hi-Pass system by the end of September.
The multi-lane Hi-Pass system is a toll booth system designed for non-stop passage, featuring multiple adjacent Hi-Pass-only lanes that are as wide as the main expressway. Unlike conventional single, narrow Hi-Pass lanes, this system removes the separation poles and walls between two or more Hi-Pass lanes, creating a single, wide lane.
The multi-lane Hi-Pass will be installed on two lanes in each direction. Once completed, the passing speed through the Wiwang Tollgate will improve from the current 30 km/h to 60 km/h. The projected hourly traffic capacity will increase from 1,100 vehicles to 1,800 vehicles—a rise of more than 60 percent—helping to alleviate bottleneck congestion and improve traffic flow.
Gyeonggi Province also plans to straighten lane alignments, reinforce safety facilities, and repaint road signs and lane markings to ensure safe driving routes for drivers, thereby enhancing both driving safety and overall traffic flow.
Gyeonggi Nambu Road Co., Ltd. will implement traffic management measures such as phased construction, temporary Hi-Pass lane installation and operation, advance notifications, and detour guidance to minimize traffic congestion and inconvenience for users during the construction period.
