The resulting 'flower tunnel,' which contrasts with the surrounding gray factory district, has become a celebrated hidden spot.
The Jeonju Palbok-dong railway will be temporarily opened to citizens and tourists to coincide with the peak of the Ippop tree blossom season. This offers a rare opportunity to walk along the distinctive floral path located in the heart of the city’s industrial district.
On April 8, Jeonju City announced that the '2026 Jeonju Ippop Tree Festival' will be held for five days—from April 25 to 26 and May 1 to 3—around the Palbok Art Factory area.
Now in its third year, this festival is focused on opening the usually restricted Bukjeonju Line section through a partnership with the Jeonbuk Regional Headquarters of Korea Railroad Corporation. The open sections are from Girindaero to Sinbok-ro (630 meters) and from Girindaero to Palbok-ro (670 meters). The operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Additionally, the section stretching about 400 meters from Geumhakgyo to Sinbok-ro near Palbok Art Factory will be open until 9 p.m., allowing visitors to enjoy the illuminated Ippop tree scenery at night.
Approximately 30 booths offering food, hands-on experiences, and sales will be set up at the festival grounds, alongside ongoing busking performances. The official opening ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on May 1.
During the festival, a special Marc Chagall exhibition will be held at Palbok Art Factory. As the schedule overlaps with the '27th Jeonju International Film Festival,' visitors will have the chance to enjoy both exhibitions and film screenings.
Over the past two festivals in 2024 and last year, the event attracted around 100,000 visitors, establishing itself as a leading spring festival in the region. This year as well, companies located within the industrial complex will provide factory sites as temporary parking lots. Access to the railway will only be permitted during the designated dates and times, and violations will result in fines.
