Today ENM Completes 5G Tunnel Antenna Supply for Paris and Rome Metros... Targeting Modernization of European Rail Networks
Today ENM, a KOSDAQ-listed domestic antenna specialist, is accelerating its expansion into the European market by completing the supply of 5G tunnel antennas for the Rome Metro in Italy, following its project for the Paris Metro in France. The company announced on April 8 that it had finished delivering antennas for the Rome Metro, worth KRW 660 million, within the first quarter of this year.
This supply achievement applies to 80% of Line A and 100% of Lines B and C of the Rome Metro, which has a total length of 62 km, resulting in a high market share. Having successfully executed both the Paris and Rome projects, the company has solidified its reference base for supplying 5G equipment within Europe.
Such achievements are based on technological capabilities accumulated domestically. The company secured proven technical expertise through projects such as the LTE-R deployment for the Gyeongbu Line and the Busan Metro in 2024, and these experiences served as a stepping stone for entering the European market, where technical barriers are high.
Another competitive edge is compatibility with global top-tier Distributed Antenna System (DAS) equipment. The company has demonstrated its technological prowess in delivering high-power 5G signals deep into tunnels within DAS environments, which are core infrastructure for underground communication networks, without Passive Intermodulation Distortion (PIMD), thereby securing interoperability with major telecommunications network vendors.
This technological competitiveness is expected to drive further growth, coinciding with the increasing demand for telecom network replacements across Europe. Demand for high-directivity 5G antennas is rapidly increasing, as the previously mainstream “leaky cable” is being replaced due to high maintenance costs and limitations in high-frequency band losses. In particular, as the European Union’s transition to the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) accelerates, the pace of next-generation telecom infrastructure replacement is expected to quicken.
A company representative stated, “Based on the symbolic references secured through the Paris and Rome projects, we plan to actively expand our business pipeline not only across Europe, including Spain, but also into the North American subway market, where telecom infrastructure modernization is underway.”
Meanwhile, according to the International Union of Railways, approximately 130,000 km of 2G (GSM-R)-based railway communication networks are currently established in Europe. Based on the Rome project, antenna sales are estimated at around KRW 10 million per kilometer of railway tunnel, suggesting significant potential market size and performance growth opportunities as the transition to 5G progresses.
