On April 2, Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province conducted a joint on-site inspection with related agencies to alleviate traffic congestion on the roads around Minrak IC on Sinpyeonghwa-ro, where persistent traffic jams have led to a continuous stream of complaints from residents.

The inspection covered approximately 1.35 kilometers, from the Buyong Tunnel near 769 Nak-yang-dong to the Minrak BRT bus stop (Eco Tunnel).
This section is currently undergoing construction for a soundproof tunnel to reduce noise for nearby apartment complexes. The Minrak Interchange, which connects the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway to Minrak-dong, Nak-yang-dong, and Gosan-dong, is also located here, making it a heavily trafficked area.
In particular, the installation of the soundproof tunnel has reduced the number of mainline lanes toward Yangju from three to two, causing a bottleneck. Additionally, the influx of vehicles merging from Minrak Interchange onto Sinpyeonghwa-ro has been identified as a major factor contributing to the congestion.
During the on-site inspection, a traffic survey was conducted during peak commuting hours to investigate the causes and patterns of congestion, and citizens’ opinions were gathered to develop strategies for improving traffic flow.
