On March 26, the institute announced that it hosted the "50th Anniversary International Conference and Commemorative Dinner" at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul. This event was organized to look back on the institute’s policy research achievements over the past 50 years and to explore future strategies to respond to a period of great transformation.
More than 300 participants from the government, academia, and industry, as well as former and current executives and staff, attended the event. Since its establishment in 1976, the institute has been recognized as a key think tank supporting the development of industrial policy during major economic crises such as the oil shock, the foreign exchange crisis, and the global financial crisis.
In his opening address, Namhoon Kwon, President of the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade, stated, "The 50th anniversary is not only a celebration of five decades of pride, but also a turning point to prepare for a new leap forward. We will continue to play a leading role in setting the direction of national industrial policy, focusing on technological innovation and industrial structural transformation."
The international conference featured discussions on the past, present, and future of Korean industry, with a particular focus on global industrial policy trends and response strategies. Experts from the University of Chicago, OECD, Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (Japan), Taiwan Institute of Economic Research, and other domestic and international organizations participated, addressing topics such as technological hegemony competition, supply chain restructuring, and directions for innovation policy.
During the commemorative dinner, the institute unveiled its new corporate identity (CI) and vision. The institute presented its future vision: "A research institute leading national industrial innovation through multidimensional insight and convergent exploration," and expressed its commitment to strengthening its role as a policy research institute.
