There's Science Hidden in Clothes Too... National Busan Science Museum Hosts "Fashion Completed by Science" Interactive Exhibition
From a Single Thread to Smart Pajamas
Variety of Weaving Experiences and Design Workshops
The National Busan Science Museum is holding an exhibition where visitors can experience the scientific principles hidden in the clothes we wear.
The National Busan Science Museum (Director Song Samjong) announced on March 26 that it will host its small-scale exhibition for the first half of the year, "Fashion Completed by Science," starting from March 31.
This exhibition is a convergence science event themed around everyday clothing. It allows visitors to experience step by step how fibers are turned into fabrics and to learn about the principles behind functional materials.
The exhibition begins with an introduction inspired by a designer's studio and is composed of three themed zones and an epilogue.
In the "Fabric Workshop," visitors can compare natural and synthetic fibers and examine the structure of threads under a microscope. There is also a weaving experience where participants can create their own fabric by weaving threads.
The "Super Function Test Room" introduces the principles of functional materials such as breathability, waterproofing, fire resistance, and bulletproof fabric. Visitors can also try on special clothing, such as children's firefighter suits and protective gear.
In the "Fashion Editing Room," visitors can learn about dyeing principles and see fabrics that change color with heat. The structure of clothing accessories such as zippers and Velcro is also presented. A digital fashion design experience using the 3D virtual styling tool "CLO JINNY" is also available.
The epilogue covers future clothing technologies, showcasing the fusion of fashion and science through examples such as smart pajamas that analyze biometric signals and self-healing fibers.
Visitors can participate in an interactive experience along the exhibition route, selecting materials and functions to design their own unique clothing.
Kwon Sujin, Head of Science Culture, stated, "The exhibition has been designed to allow visitors to intuitively experience the scientific principles embedded in clothing," adding, "We hope this exhibition will serve as an opportunity to foster scientific curiosity and creativity."
