This agreement focuses on supplementing the practical limitations of occupational therapist training and continuing education programs by leveraging Raonmeta's 'Metademy' platform. The strategy aims to expand field training opportunities and overcome the constraints of in-person education through immersive practice environments that combine extended reality (XR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies.
In the field of occupational therapy, securing sufficient practice environments is crucial, as domestic certification requires 320 hours of practice, and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) international certification demands approximately 1,000 hours. To address this, both parties agreed to implement realistic clinical environments within the Metademy platform and integrate them with the association’s official education programs.
In particular, the development of practice content that meets WFOT certification standards has been identified as a core task of the collaboration. WFOT is the international benchmark for evaluating and accrediting occupational therapy education worldwide. By securing content that meets these standards, the initiative is expected to address domestic demand for practical training and enhance global educational competitiveness.
Raonmeta plans to establish a Metademy-based virtual practice environment specialized for occupational therapy in line with these standards. This will allow for repeated, scenario-based practice in virtual spaces, such as daily living training for stroke patients, cognitive rehabilitation assessment scenarios, and practice in applying and manipulating upper limb orthoses.
Through this approach, students are expected to develop clinical skills and improve proficiency through repeated training without real patients. Seasoned occupational therapists will also be able to continuously strengthen their expertise by experiencing diverse treatment scenarios in virtual settings in advance.
The jointly developed content will be recognized as part of the official curriculum of the Korean Association of Occupational Therapists, laying the foundation for the use of the Metademy platform in occupational therapy education. Additionally, the introduction of XR-based practical training infrastructure will be expanded to occupational therapy departments at universities nationwide and to major medical institutions.
As a result, Raonmeta is expected to expand its business domain in XR-based practice content in collaboration with the association, while the Korean Association of Occupational Therapists will be able to strengthen its members’ foundation for global advancement by establishing education infrastructure that meets international standards.
Yoon Wonseok, Head of the Metademy Business Division at Raonmeta, stated, "Occupational therapy requires high-level clinical capabilities to support patients’ daily recovery, so the value of XR technologies in this field is significant. We will continue to develop advanced educational content across various fields using cutting-edge technologies to help raise the level of on-site training."
