On March 25, Daejeon City, in collaboration with the Daejeon Institute, held the "Daejeon Urban Regeneration Seminar for Implementing a Sustainable City Model" at the Mokwon University Concert Hall. At this event, participants discussed ways to enhance metropolitan governance to improve the sustainability of urban regeneration.

The seminar was attended by approximately 100 urban regeneration stakeholders, including Jin-Hyuk Choi, President of the Daejeon Institute, Hee-Hak Lee, President of Mokwon University, and Jae-Woo Lee, President of the Korea Urban Regeneration Association. Before the opening ceremony, a work agreement was also signed among the Daejeon Institute, Mokwon University, and the Korea Urban Regeneration Association.

The first session of the seminar focused on "Strengthening the Expertise of Urban Regeneration Human Resources and Organizations," discussing the current status and challenges of cultivating professionals and developing human resources for urban regeneration.

The second session, under the theme "Public-Private Partnership Model for Low-Rise Old Residential Area Maintenance," addressed models for collaborative house repair and residential maintenance projects, as well as strategies for establishing metropolitan-level cooperation systems tailored to local conditions.

To date, Daejeon City has invested a total of KRW 423.7 billion in 19 urban regeneration projects, with 11 projects currently underway and 8 having been completed.

Notably, Daejeon City has participated annually in new project solicitations organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. In 2024, the Jung-gu Daeheung-dong New Village Project was selected, followed by the Daedeok-gu Jungni-dong Old Residential Area Improvement Support Project and the Ojeong Urban Regeneration Innovation District National Pilot Project in 2025, which are being implemented in stages.

Additionally, on March 11, Daejeon City applied for the 2026 project solicitation and is preparing for subsequent selection procedures such as presentation evaluations. Furthermore, the city plans to continue advancing urban regeneration projects linked with local districts, including the discovery of region-specific projects, in order to further develop a Daejeon-style urban regeneration model.

Through this seminar, Daejeon City aims to enhance the effectiveness of its urban regeneration policies and accelerate the implementation of sustainable urban regeneration by strengthening the foundation for cooperation that aligns with local characteristics and on-site needs.
