After passing the feasibility re-evaluation by the Ministry of Economy and Finance in June 2024, the initial tender announcement failed to attract bidders. The province then consulted with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to reflect inflationary pressures, finalizing the total project cost at KRW 119.6 billion, an increase of KRW 3.1 billion from the previous KRW 116.5 billion.
This inspection was conducted after Dongbu Construction, the preferred negotiator, passed the basic design qualification review by the Public Procurement Service on the 17th, effectively finalizing the blueprint for the Seomyeondae Bridge construction project. The purpose was to check the progress and request timely completion.
Once completed, the Seomyeondae Bridge will reduce the vehicle travel distance from Seomyeon to downtown Chuncheon from 9.7 km to 3.6 km, and the travel time from 17 minutes to 7 minutes. This is expected to help distribute urban traffic and improve accessibility. The bridge, together with the Second Gyeongchun National Road and the Anbo–Yongsan National Road Alternative Bypass, will serve as a key gateway into Chuncheon during the “Metropolitan Gangwon Era.”

Additionally, the Second Gyeongchun National Road aims to select a developer and begin construction in the first half of 2026, with completion targeted for 2032. The Anbo–Yongsan National Road Alternative Bypass and the Bukbang–Dongnae road expansion projects are being pursued with the goal of being included in the 6th National Road and Local Road Construction Plan by the second half of this year.
National Assemblyman Kiho Han (Chuncheon, Cheorwon, Hwacheon, Yanggu-eul) stated, "I will do my utmost to secure the necessary budget so that funding for the three-year period from 2027 to 2029 is allocated without any issues."
The head of Geumsan 3-ri in Seomyeon said, "I am very pleased that the project will be fully implemented starting this year. Residents expect that it will take only five minutes to get downtown, greatly improving living conditions, and local merchants are also very hopeful."
