Bereaved Families to Participate in Joint On-Site Investigation by Relevant Agencies
Starting March 22, the government will set up and operate a joint memorial altar at Daejeon City Hall to honor the victims who lost their lives in the Daejeon factory fire.

View original imageThis decision was made during the third meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters for the Daedeok District factory fire, presided over by Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Hojung on this day.
A total of 74 people have been reported as casualties in the fire. Fourteen people died, 25 sustained serious injuries, and 35 suffered minor injuries. It was also confirmed that two firefighters were injured.
As of the previous day, all 14 missing persons had been recovered and identification procedures are underway. Accordingly, the meeting discussed support for bereaved families and victims, the establishment of inter-ministerial roles, and the creation of a collaborative response system to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The government will assign dedicated officials to provide comprehensive support for psychological assistance, funeral arrangements, and livelihood support. Following the wishes of the bereaved families and in honor of the deceased, a joint memorial altar will be operated at Daejeon City Hall starting today.
To expedite the identification process, the police will provide additional DNA analyzers, and the National Forensic Service will conduct urgent analyses to minimize the time required for identification.
Regular briefings will be held to update on the recovery process, and bereaved family members will be ensured participation in the accident investigation, so that they are not excluded from the recovery process.

Following the President's directive to execute all necessary expenditures proactively, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety will provide Daejeon City with an emergency special disaster subsidy of 1 billion won. This is to ensure prompt debris removal near the site, relief activities, and the implementation of measures to prevent secondary damage.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to comprehensively review safety management regulations for buildings, including sandwich panel structures and illegal extensions, which have been identified as factors that exacerbated the fire damage. The National Fire Agency and the Ministry of Employment and Labor will conduct emergency safety inspections of similar workplaces.
