The total accumulated number of cleanings has reached 2.3 million so far. In January of this year alone, there were about 400,000 cleanings, a fivefold increase compared to six months ago.
In particular, usage on university campuses, where young customers interested in value-based consumption are concentrated, was found to be more than 50% higher than the overall average.
Since its launch in April last year, LG MyCup has been installed in a growing variety of everyday locations, including approximately 2,000 Starbucks stores nationwide, as well as cafes, public institutions, universities, corporate offices, and gyms.
Recently, demand has been rapidly increasing not only among private companies and individual business owners but also in the B2G (business-to-government) sector, including public institutions and local governments. This trend is attributed to the growing interest in hygiene management, the implementation of policies encouraging the use of reusable cups, and the ESG management practices of companies.
LG Electronics explained that the popularity of MyCup is the result of positive reviews for its cleaning performance, app, and subscription service, all of which enhance convenience. MyCup features a cleaning blade that rotates 360°, and uses high-pressure water at 65°C to simultaneously clean both the inside and outside of the tumbler as well as the lid.
Through its subscription service, LG Electronics provides professional services such as steam cleaning for the lower door grille and the detergent and rinse compartments, areas that are difficult for users to clean themselves.
To promote the use of tumblers, LG Electronics is holding an LG MyCup usage certification event until the end of next month. Customers can participate by cleaning their own tumbler with MyCup and posting a review on their social media accounts such as Instagram or blogs. LG Electronics will hold a draw to give away prizes including the LG Gram, LG StanbyME 2, and Starbucks gift certificates.
