This early success demonstrates the effectiveness of the city’s stay-type tourism policy.
Naju City announced on March 16 that, since the official launch of the program on March 1, the number of applicants had surpassed 2,000 as of March 15. The total amount of support funds distributed so far stands at 50 million won.
"Naju One Night Two Benefits" is a flagship initiative designed to transform Naju from a city that tourists merely pass through into a city where visitors choose to stay. The program targets individual tourists from outside the city who stay at least one night in Naju and visit at least one tourist attraction.
Depending on the number of accompanying people, the incentive can be as high as 150,000 won. Recipients can choose to receive the benefit as either a Naju Love Gift Certificate or Naju Mall points.
Additionally, participants are provided with discount coupons for the Hwangpo Sailboat and monorail tickets for the Bitgaram Observatory, encouraging a seamless connection between accommodation, tourism, and local spending.
This program is particularly significant because it is designed to ensure that stay-type tourism directly contributes to local consumption.
According to the "2024 National Travel Survey" by the Korea Culture & Tourism Institute, the average spending per person on tourism accommodation travel is 61,000 won. Applying this figure to the 2,000 applicants as of March 13, the direct tourism consumption effect is expected to reach around 120 million won.
This is about 2.5 times the current support fund total of 50 million won, demonstrating how the stay-type tourism policy is expanding consumption across the entire local economy—including accommodation, restaurants, cafes, experiences, and shopping.
Naju City has also improved the program’s convenience to allow more tourists to participate.
The city enhanced the system so that, instead of requiring reservations three days in advance, tourists can now apply up to one day before their trip, allowing for greater flexibility in planning and use of the program.
Through "Naju One Night Two Benefits," Naju City aims to shift the tourism flow from brief visits to a structure centered on extended stays and local consumption. The city plans to further expand the impact on the regional economy by linking the program with key tourism content for the Year of Visiting Naju.
