LG Uplus: "Aiming to Become an AI Solutions Company Beyond Telecommunications"
Telecommunications companies are accelerating the transition to AI (AX) within their organizations in preparation for the era of 'AI agents (assistants)'. They are determined to realize the goal of 'one AI agent per employee' by implementing systems that enable employees to freely utilize AI, thereby enhancing work productivity. This move is seen as a strategic step to overcome the limitations of the telecommunications industry and to expand into new areas such as AI solutions to generate new revenue streams.
On March 16, SK Telecom announced its goal of having every employee, including those in non-developer roles, create an AI agent specialized for their own work, and unveiled a detailed roadmap including employee training.
SK Telecom has officially launched 'AXMS (AX Management System)', an AX corporate culture support system for all employees. AXMS transparently discloses innovation ideas related to AI, progress, and feedback submitted by individuals, increasing the utilization of in-house knowledge, and supports a dashboard to check this information in real time.
In addition, SK Telecom is supporting all employees in directly developing AI agents, going beyond simply automating existing work with AI. The company provides platforms such as 'A.Dot Biz', an AI agent for work tasks; 'Polaris', specialized in marketing and data extraction; and 'Playground', which assists with network data analysis and coding—all designed to make it easy to create AI agents even without coding experience or knowledge. Employees can use these platforms to ask questions in natural language or combine modules like building blocks to create AI agents that can be applied in their actual work.
SK Telecom employees are concretizing AI projects applied to the workplace using the exclusive platform ‘AXMS’.

Last year, KT opened the AI Campus, a dedicated space for AI education, at its Pangyo office and has been strengthening practical, AI-centered training that employees can use in the workplace. The company is also running intensive courses under the theme 'Becoming a Work Expert Using Generative AI'. Starting this year, KT introduced training in five areas: prompt engineering, content creation with generative AI, information search and collection, table analysis and visualization, and work automation. A KT official said, "Nearly 300 employees at various locations, including Seoul and Busan, have completed the training," and added, "We plan to expand training for employees and partner companies to accelerate the company's full AX transition."
LG Uplus is also running various training programs to strengthen AX competencies among its employees. The company offers monthly company-wide AX training courses both online and offline, segmented into programs for leadership-level employees and on-site practitioners.
The company also operates a 'One Team, One AX Project' program that encourages teams or individuals to change their way of working based on AX. Team leaders and team members directly discuss and select AX projects and then carry them out individually, thereby boosting work productivity through AX.

These efforts reflect the telecom operators' sense of urgency that they must transform into AX solution companies and create new revenue sources to ensure their continued survival. Jaeheon Jung, CEO of SK Telecom, stated, "AI transformation does not begin with flashy technology, but with small improvements made by employees who best understand the challenges in their own workplaces," adding, "Attempts to solve inconveniences through AI will come together to create a strong driving force for SK Telecom's unique AX flywheel."
