T'way Air's Cargo Business Soars, Growing 2.3 Times in Two Years
Expected to Reach 9,000 Tons in Q1
Successful Expansion of Long-Haul Routes
T'way Air is achieving visible results in the cargo transportation sector by introducing large aircraft and expanding long-haul routes. Following its passenger business, the airline is establishing its cargo operations as a new source of revenue.
On March 16, T'way Air announced that its cargo volume in the first quarter of this year is expected to reach approximately 9,000 tons. This represents a 130% surge compared to around 4,000 tons in the first quarter of 2024, meaning the business has grown about 2.3 times in just two years.
Previously, T'way Air recorded a total annual cargo volume of 34,000 tons last year, a 92% increase from about 18,000 tons the year before. The successful launch of medium- and long-haul routes, including European destinations such as Paris, Rome, Barcelona, and Frankfurt, as well as Sydney and Vancouver, is believed to have driven these results.
The quality of transported goods has also improved. In addition to cosmetics and e-commerce shipments, the company has optimized its processes for high value-added cargo such as fresh food and semiconductor components. In particular, by strengthening its cold chain transportation capabilities based on temperature control solutions, T'way Air is also responding to demand for pharmaceutical and bio-cargo.
Starting this year, T'way Air will sequentially introduce Airbus's eco-friendly A330-900NEO aircraft, marking a new leap forward for the company. This model can reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by about 25% compared to previous models, contributing to both ESG management practices and increased cargo capacity.
