The Dong-A University Korean Language and Culture Center has launched recruitment for the "Busan Uri Mal Advocate," a citizen participation program aimed at improving language activities and preserving regional dialects in Busan.
On March 13, the Dong-A University Korean Language and Culture Center announced that it is accepting applications for the "12th Busan Uri Mal Advocate" for 2026 until March 31.
This program is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Federation of Korean Language and Culture Centers, and hosted by the Dong-A University Korean Language and Culture Center. It is operated in the form of university student and citizen clubs at 13 Korean Language and Culture Centers nationwide. In Busan, the Dong-A University Korean Language and Culture Center has been in charge since 2015, continuing activities to spread regional language and culture.
The Uri Mal Advocates carry out various activities to cherish the Korean language and script and to promote the local dialect in the Busan area. The activities are divided into four categories: ▲"Uri Mal Guardian," which works to improve language use in broadcasting, communications, and public language; ▲"Uri Mal Promoter," which creates newspapers and promotional videos on topics related to the Korean language; ▲"Regional Dialect Preserver," which conducts research on and produces promotional materials for the preservation of Busan's regional dialect; and ▲"Onnuri Promoter," which promotes the Korean language through social media.
Selected advocates will participate in activities for one year and will receive benefits such as credited volunteer hours and awards for outstanding performance based on their achievements.
Busan Uri Mal Advocates have previously conducted a wide range of Korean language campaigns, including the "Language Monitoring Team," which investigates and suggests improvements for language use in public notices, promotional materials, and official websites. They have also organized events such as the Sejong the Great's Birthday Commemoration and the "Great Korean Language Festival" for Hangeul Day.
Any citizen residing in the Busan area is eligible to apply. Those wishing to participate can submit their application via the dedicated Naver Form by March 31.
