CDP is a global initiative that assesses major companies on climate change response and water resource management by collecting environmental management information, under the mandate of financial investment institutions worldwide. It is regarded as a representative environmental information disclosure platform utilized by investors and companies.
CDP evaluates corporate capabilities in climate change response and water resource management every year, assigning a total of eight grades: Leadership A, Leadership A-, Management B, and others. The company ranked first among those with Leadership scores receives the Grand Prize, those ranked second and third receive the Top Excellence Award, and among companies scoring Leadership A- or above, the Excellence Award is presented.
In this evaluation, Hyundai Rotem’s rating improved by two levels from the previous year, earning the Leadership A grade and the Excellence Award. Since being included in the CDP environmental management assessment in 2022, this is the first time the company has achieved the highest grade.
Hyundai Rotem operates its own management standards, which are stricter than legal requirements, to minimize the discharge of water pollutants at its business sites. The company has strengthened its water resource management system by continuously monitoring discharge water quality, and managing water usage and reuse performance at its facilities.
In 2024, Hyundai Rotem inspected water pollutant discharge volumes and replaced related facilities to prevent environmental accidents caused by aging wastewater treatment plants.
Looking ahead, Hyundai Rotem plans to establish mid- to long-term management strategies for reducing water pollutants and to further advance its water resource risk management system. The company is also considering the introduction of advanced wastewater treatment systems and building processes to reuse low-concentration wastewater.
In addition, Hyundai Rotem is working to expand renewable energy use as part of its commitment to carbon-neutral and sustainable management. Last year, the company installed solar power generation facilities at its core production base in Changwon, producing 929 MWh of renewable energy annually. This is enough to fully charge a small 42 kWh battery electric vehicle approximately 22,000 times.
Hyundai Rotem aims to achieve 100% renewable energy use across all business sites by 2040.
A Hyundai Rotem official stated, "Our companywide efforts in water resource management for ecosystem protection have led to the highest rating in the CDP evaluation. We will continue to contribute to building a sustainable society by further enhancing water resource management and expanding the use of renewable energy."
