Soo-sim Shin, Founding Director of the Little Angels Art Troupe, Passes Away at 89
The Little Angels Art Troupe announced on March 5 that Soo-sim Shin, the founding director of the Little Angels Art Troupe, passed away on March 4. She was 89 years old.
Shin became the founding director when the Little Angels Art Troupe was established in 1962, dedicating herself to developing early Korean dance repertoires and nurturing artistic talent. She played a pivotal role in elevating Korean traditional dance into unique, ensemble-centered stage art, and was instrumental in building the signature performance repertoire of the Little Angels.

View original imageIn recognition of her contributions to cultivating countless cultural and artistic professionals, the Little Angels Art Troupe awarded her the "Great Little Angels Mentor Award" in 2022, marking the 60th anniversary of the Little Angels Art Troupe Alumni Association.
The Little Angels Art Troupe expressed condolences, stating, "The artistic identity forged by the late director has been the driving force behind the Little Angels’ efforts to elevate the status of Korean culture and arts worldwide over the past 60 years. The spirit and passion for Korean traditional performing arts left by founding director Soo-sim Shin will be forever remembered on stage."

The memorial altar has been set up in Room 14 of the funeral hall at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital. The funeral procession will begin at 5 a.m. on March 7, and the burial will take place at the Azalea Park within Seoul Memorial Park.
