Seo-gu Council Member Ahn Hyungjoo Announces Candidacy for Jeonnam Gwangju City Council: "Preparing Gwangju's Future at the Special City Turning Point"
Ahn Hyungjoo, a 40-year-old member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, has announced his candidacy for the Jeonnam Gwangju City Council election.
On March 5, Ahn, as a preliminary candidate, held a press conference at the Gwangju City Council briefing room, stating, "I have led the effort to introduce the first resident ordinance initiative in Seo-gu and have worked to expand resident sovereignty. At this turning point with the launch of the Jeonnam Gwangju Special City, I will help prepare for Gwangju's future."

View original imageFor his main pledges, Ahn proposed transforming the former military airport site in Maruk-dong into a hub for future industries, establishing a Green Road between Seochang and Uncheon, strengthening a self-reliant welfare safety net for local governments, and improving neighborhood safety and resident sovereignty. He explained that the military airport relocation site would prioritize the introduction of industries such as artificial intelligence (AI), future mobility, and advanced content industries, and that development profits would be reinvested into citizens’ livelihoods and job creation.
Ahn also stated, "By focusing on the robotics industry, I will attract large domestic and foreign companies to create a future industrial base that integrates industry and tourism. Through my work on the Education and Culture Committee, I will resolve the imbalance in student commutes between Chipyeong Middle School and Sangmu Middle School, and I will attract a specialized high school to Seo-gu to improve the educational environment."

Ahn graduated from the Department of Hotel Management at Honam University and earned a master's degree from the Graduate School of Policy Studies at Chonnam National University. He has served as Vice-Chairman of the Youth Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea and was a member of the 9th Seo-gu Council.
