Opening a New Horizon for Korea-Japan Media... Dongseo University Hosts 3rd Busan-Fukuoka Journalist Forum
Journalists and Scholars from Both Countries to Gather at Dongseo University’s Centum Campus
Concrete Measures to Build a "Korea-Japan Relations Specialized Platform" to Be Discussed
Dongseo University will open a forum to explore a new model for Korea-Japan media cooperation.
The Japan Research Center of Dongseo University (President Jang Jeguk) announced on the 20th that it will hold the "3rd Busan-Fukuoka Journalist Forum" on the 21st at the Convention Hall on the first basement floor of Dongseo University’s Centum Campus. The forum has been organized to assess changes in the media environment in Korea and Japan and to seek ways to enhance cooperation.
The event will be held under the theme, "A New Horizon for Korea-Japan Media: Possibilities and Challenges of a Korea-Japan Relations Specialized Platform." Going beyond simple analysis of current phenomena, participants will engage in concrete discussions on how to build a new media platform through which citizens of both countries can share practical, everyday information.
At the opening ceremony, President Jang Jeguk will deliver opening remarks, followed by congratulatory speeches from Consul General Oscar Tsuyoshi of Japan in Busan and Ishihara Susumu, Fukuoka-side Chair of the Busan-Fukuoka Forum.
The first session will be held under the theme, "Legacy Media vs. New Media." Professor Seo Youngah of Dongseo University (formerly with the Dong-A Ilbo) and Asahi Shimbun reporter Hakoda Tetsuya will give presentations examining the impact of new media on coverage of Korea-Japan relations. Journalists from media outlets in both countries, including the Dong-A Ilbo, the Busan Ilbo, and the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, will take part in the discussion.
The second session, under the theme, "Perceptions of Korea and Japan in the Busan-Fukuoka Wider Metropolitan Area and the Role of the Media," will explore the potential for a "wider living-sphere media" focused on everyday, life-related agendas such as the economy, tourism, and culture. RKB Mainichi Broadcasting reporter Takato Akiko and Busan Ilbo reporter Son Hyerim will present, and representatives from KNN, the Korea JoongAng Daily’s Busan-based International Newspaper, and the Nishi-Nippon Shimbun will join as panelists.
The third session, titled "Brainstorming for the Establishment of a Korea-Japan Relations Specialized Platform," will be moderated directly by President Jang Jeguk. After presentations by Dongseo University Professor Fujii Michihiko, Dongseo University Professor Park Jooyoung (former reporter at the Chosun Ilbo), and Mainichi Shimbun reporter Horiyama Akiko, all participants will engage in an open discussion.
