Daegu Happiness Promotion Agency to Operate Daegu Children's World Under Commission... "We Will Strengthen Publicness"
Starting in January 2026, the Daegu Happiness Promotion Agency began operating “Daegu Children's World” under commission, with the goal of maximizing the public nature of local children's culture and education services and significantly expanding its role as Daegu’s leading child welfare hub institution.
Using this operational transition as a turning point, the Daegu Happiness Promotion Agency will actively apply the successful know-how accumulated since July last year through the operation of “Waglwagl Children's World” to “Daegu Children's World.” By complementing the functions of Waglwagl Children's World, which focuses on infants and toddlers, and Daegu Children's World, which serves children up to elementary school age, the agency plans to complete a “seamless one-stop children’s service system” tailored to each developmental stage and to present a standard model for Daegu-style integrated cultural services.
Daegu Children's World is a leading local children’s multi-cultural complex that first opened in November 1983 as the “Children’s Hall.” After being remodeled in June 2023, it had been operated under a private consignment model, but as of January this year, the Daegu Happiness Promotion Agency has taken over its operation, officially converting it to a public operation system.
Through this transition, the Daegu Happiness Promotion Agency will focus on expanding performance and educational programs, improving user-centered services, enhancing the facility environment, and strengthening content expertise through cooperation with related institutions.
First, it will expand rental operations of the Ggoekkori Theater to increase participation opportunities for local performance groups and artists, while providing children with a diverse range of high-quality performance content. At the Kkumnuri Hall, new “package programs” that combine hands-on experiences with education will be developed to raise satisfaction among family visitors. In addition, the educational curriculum will be significantly reinforced by introducing a new “five-senses play program,” on top of existing forest experience, art, science, violin, and physical education classes.
Landscape management of the outdoor spaces, which have long been loved by citizens, will also be strengthened. To provide a pleasant rest area, the landscaping maintenance cycle, previously conducted twice a year, will be increased to four times a year for intensive management, and additional budget will be secured to improve the scenery. In addition, the agency plans to expand jointly organized events with related institutions and actively participate in open-call projects to enhance the quality of exhibitions and events, while at the same time achieving both cost savings and greater expertise.
