On January 30, POSCO announced that it held the "Kick-Off for the Joint Research on Establishing a Value-Creation Labor-Management Culture" at the POSCO Labor Union office in Pohang. The event was attended by Kim Sungho, Chairman of the POSCO Labor Union; Kim Donghee, Head of POSCO's Management Support Division; and Chae Junho, Professor at Chonbuk National University, who is leading the research.

The purpose of this joint research is to establish a "POSCO-style labor-management culture standard" that goes beyond the labor union's traditional role of protecting workers' rights and contributes to the local community and the broader industrial ecosystem. Through this initiative, POSCO's labor and management aim to present a new model of mutual growth for labor relations in Korea.

The POSCO Labor Union has set forth a vision for 2025 that emphasizes a balance between struggle and cooperation, the expansion of the union's social responsibility, and the strengthening of its influence in the local community. The company is also continuing its institutional support through contributions to the labor-management mutual growth fund and by strengthening collective bargaining agreements.

The union is engaging in social contribution activities using joint labor-management funds, such as supporting vulnerable groups in the community, providing scholarships, and participating in relief efforts for disaster-affected areas. It is also involved in policy alliances to protect the steel industry ecosystem through its activities in the Council of Steel Industry Trade Unions. In the area of safety, the union is promoting bottom-up innovation by incorporating feedback from the field and is participating in the Group Safety Innovation Task Force to help improve working conditions.

This research project is led by Professor Chae Junho of Chonbuk National University, with the POSCO Research Institute (POSRI) handling practical operations. Both labor and management plan to develop an implementation roadmap for a sustainable labor-management mutual growth model and joint benefit activities amid uncertainties such as the global economic downturn and the transition to decarbonization.

The joint research team plans to establish POSCO's unique, differentiated labor-management culture guidelines through on-site surveys and expert analysis within this year.
