In addition, the Wangok Ilheung District has also been designated as a new basic survey site for drainage improvement, signaling a phased expansion of drainage improvement projects in the Naju area.
The drainage improvement project for the Sanho District, newly selected as a project site, will be carried out in Sanho-ri, Songsan-ri, and Angok-ri in Munpyeong-myeon, Naju City, Jeollanam-do. The total project cost is 11.9 billion won, which will be fully funded by the national government. The project period is from 2025 to 2030.
The main components of the project include: ▲ construction of one new drainage station ▲ reinforcement of one existing drainage station ▲ construction of one new drainage gate ▲ maintenance of a 3 km drainage channel. The project focuses on fundamentally improving drainage functions in areas that are regularly flooded due to low-lying terrain.
The Sanho District has continuously faced issues with narrow and aging drainage facilities due to recurring annual flooding in low-lying areas. During the rainy season, frequent flooding of farmland has resulted in agricultural water loss and damage to farming operations.
Through this drainage improvement project, it is expected that drainage capacity will be expanded and facilities modernized, leading to improved agricultural productivity and better living conditions for residents.
This project was first selected as a basic survey site for improvement in February 2024, and after completing the basic plan in December of the same year, a solid foundation for full-scale implementation was established.
Meanwhile, the Wangok Ilheung District, newly selected as a basic survey site, will benefit a total of 82 hectares of farmland, with a total project cost of 6.7 billion won.
Through the basic survey, the causes of flooding and overall drainage conditions will be comprehensively analyzed, after which the commencement and scale of the future drainage improvement project will be specified in detail.
Assemblyman Jeonghoon Shin stated, "Since the Naju area was selected as a drainage improvement project site by the Korea Rural Community Corporation in 2024, we have continued to coordinate with related organizations to ensure smooth project implementation," emphasizing, "Drainage improvement projects are extremely important for ensuring the safety of farmers' agricultural activities."
He added, "With the new launch of the Sanho District project and the addition of the Wangok Ilheung District as a basic survey site, we will continue to make various efforts-such as securing budgets and improving systems-to thoroughly address the difficult conditions faced by farmers and to create a safe farming environment."
