Prime Minister Kim Orders Emergency Fine Dust Reduction Measures for Chungcheong Region and North Jeolla Province
Prime Minister Kim Minseok instructed relevant ministries and local governments to thoroughly implement "emergency fine dust reduction measures" after an ultrafine dust crisis alert was issued for the Chungcheong region (Daejeon, Sejong, North Chungcheong, South Chungcheong) and North Jeolla Province on January 15, according to the Office for Government Policy Coordination.
Prime Minister Kim directed the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and local governments to "promptly take related actions, such as issuing emergency reduction measures, in accordance with the established response manuals, and to provide sufficient guidance to the public." He also called on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to "thoroughly implement emergency reduction measures, including partial restrictions on coal-fired power plant operations, emission reductions at construction sites and workplaces, and restrictions on the operation of grade 5 vehicles."
He requested the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and local governments to implement protective measures for students, vulnerable groups, and outdoor workers.
