Personal Information Protection Commission to Support Safe Destruction of Interpark Commerce and Wemakeprice User Data
Permanent Deletion Using Irrecoverable Methods
Ongoing Supervision to Prevent Illegal Distribution of Personal Data
The Personal Information Protection Commission announced on December 30 that it will oversee and support the safe destruction of user personal data held by Interpark Commerce and Wemakeprice, both of which recently declared bankruptcy.
This measure is intended to prevent potential data leaks by permanently destroying the vast amounts of member information that have been collected and processed, as there is no longer any possibility of service resumption following the bankruptcy of the two companies.
The Commission will cooperate with bankruptcy trustees responsible for corporate liquidation to verify the list of IT assets and the storage locations of member data, and will ensure that the data is permanently deleted using methods that make recovery impossible.
In particular, the Commission plans to focus on preemptively preventing the illegal distribution of personal information that could occur if used IT assets are disposed of without proper data destruction.
