Daejeon City Secures Full Funding for 'Guam Intersection Grade Separation' in Northwest Congestion Zone
LH to Bear Full 45.5 Billion Won Project Cost...
355m Underground Roadway with Six Lanes Planned
Final Inclusion in Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Measures for Jukdong 2 District Public Housing Project
Daejeon City has secured the full project budget for the grade separation of Guam Intersection, a section in the northwest that frequently experiences heavy congestion, raising expectations for a dramatic improvement in traffic flow in the area.
Daejeon City has secured the entire 45.5 billion won budget required for the Guam Intersection (currently Yuseong Saengmyeong High School Samgeori) grade separation project.
This project gained momentum after it was finally included in the metropolitan transportation improvement measures for the Jukdong 2 District Public Housing Supply Project, as decided at the Metropolitan Area Transportation Review Committee meeting held at Daejeon City Hall on December 18.
Accordingly, the entire cost of the Guam Intersection grade separation project will be borne by Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), which is the implementing agency for the Jukdong 2 District public housing project.
The Guam Intersection grade separation project, included in the metropolitan transportation improvement measures, is linked to the underground roadway passing under the Honam Expressway branch as part of the Oesam-Yuseong Complex Terminal BRT connecting road. The plan calls for the construction of an underground roadway with a total length of 355 meters and six lanes (three lanes in each direction).
Announced in September this year as a core task of the “Northwest Area Chronic Congestion Section Structural Improvement Project,” the initiative aims to resolve chronic congestion around Hanbat-daero and the Jangdae Intersection-Guamgyo Intersection area, and to disperse northwest area traffic between Hanbat-daero and World Cup-daero as a major transportation infrastructure project.
According to LH’s traffic analysis, Guam Intersection is a key intersection on World Cup-daero, where daily traffic volume is expected to reach about 39,879 vehicles by 2030 if the Oesam-Yuseong Complex Terminal BRT road is connected to Yuseong Saengmyeong High School Samgeori. Once the section is grade-separated, the currently saturated (Level E) traffic service level is expected to improve significantly.
The Jukdong 2 District public housing area is a large-scale public housing district planned for 5,908 households, being developed to support real demanders in home ownership and to stabilize the housing market in line with the government’s housing supply expansion policy. Completion is targeted for 2032.
