In particular, the sector-specific roadmaps were evaluated as meaningful for presenting detailed tasks aimed at achieving special city status with a population of one million and ensuring sustainable growth.
In the subsequent discussion, in-depth debates were held on topics such as strategies for becoming a self-sufficient city, enhancing urban competitiveness, and preparations and functions as a special city. The presidents of academic societies from each field who participated in the discussion agreed that the Namyangju City Policy Research Institute, as the only government-funded research institute in the northeastern Gyeonggi region, should grow into a key policy think tank leading regional cooperation and balanced development.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok stated, "This seminar is an important starting point for presenting the vision and strategies with which the Namyangju City Policy Research Institute will lead policy research going forward," emphasizing, "Amidst major changes such as the expansion of transportation infrastructure like the GTX and large-scale urban development projects including the Wangsuk District, it is more important than ever to operate city administration with a strategic, future-oriented perspective."
Director Kang Jesang commented, "Since its establishment, we have laid the foundation for research that diagnoses the present of Namyangju and prepares for its future," adding, "Based on Vision 2050, we will continue to research practical policies that lead to an improved quality of life for citizens."
