Gwangju Mayor Bang Se-hwan Receives Plaque of Appreciation from Gyeonggang Line Extension Promotion Committee
On December 15, Bang Se-hwan, Mayor of Gwangju City, received a plaque of appreciation from the Gyeonggang Line Extension Promotion Committee in recognition of his contributions to the mutually beneficial development of the southeastern metropolitan area and the advancement of the Gyeonggang Line extension railway project, a long-standing regional agenda.

View original imageThe plaque was presented after representatives from the Gyeonggang Line Extension Promotion Committee, a civic group based in Yongin, visited Gwangju City Hall and held a meeting with Mayor Bang.
During the meeting, participants shared updates on the progress of the Gyeonggang Line extension railway project and discussed future plans for joint response and cooperation between Gwangju and Yongin.
A representative from the Promotion Committee stated, "Mayor Bang Se-hwan's ongoing interest and dedication to regional development, and especially his proactive efforts to advance the Gyeonggang Line extension railway project, have greatly fulfilled the long-held hopes and expectations of the citizens," highlighting the significance of the plaque.
The Gyeonggang Line extension project is a general railway network construction initiative with a total length of 37.97 kilometers, connecting Gyeonggi Gwangju Station to Idong and Namsa-eup in Cheoin-gu, Yongin. Gwangju City and Yongin Special City are working closely together to ensure the project's inclusion in the 5th National Railway Network Construction Plan, making it a key metropolitan transportation infrastructure project.
Mayor Bang Se-hwan stated, "The extension of the Gyeonggang Line is essential not only for the balanced development of Gwangju and Yongin, but also for improving the transportation environment in the southeastern metropolitan area. Moving forward, I will continue to actively convey the voices of the local community to central government agencies and the National Assembly to ensure that we achieve tangible results."

Meanwhile, the city plans to focus its administrative and policy capabilities on ensuring the inclusion of the Gyeonggang Line extension project in the National Railway Network Construction Plan and accelerating its progress through close cooperation with neighboring local governments.
